Do UK authors write better than Americans?

Neve Campbell is glad that she moved to London from Hollywood because she enjoys making British independent films a lot more than cliched Hollywood movies. Neve moved to the UK after getting engaged to British actor John Light and performed in Resurrection Blues in the West End earlier this year. She said recently: "The writers are more talented here."

"People don’t just pick up a pen and say, 'I'm going to write a screenplay,' which happens all the time in LA. They have some background in literature before they decide to come up with a story."

I don't know. I'm still deciding.

Oh please. Neve Campbell has totally whored her self out to whatever lousy movie Hollywood wanted to make and now she's looking to criticize. I wonder if what she is really trying to say is "it isn't my fault that my career peaked with Party of Five...really...blame Hollywood!"

I'm not saying that Hollywood is pumping out a whole lot of amazing stuff these days, it isn't, and hasn't been. However, comparing independent British films to what Hollywood is producing is really inappropriate when we have such a thriving independent filmmaking community here. When comparing American and British independent films I honestly don't see a tremendous enough difference to merit generalization as gross as "the writers are more talented here".

If you're asking about independent film versus the big established movie houses in either country, the independents win hands down.

Novices don't write screenplays in the UK? Hmm. Why am I skeptical?

Moreover, are screenwriters considered to be authors? I was under the possibly mistaken impression that they were under another job title altogether. Yes, screewriter - author - totally different tasks. Each demanding a high degree of skill for good quality work - in entirely separate fields.
