Sadly Aqua I tend to borrow books from my library. However I prefer the trade editions too when I buy a book.

I absolutely despise the film tie-in editions...

This depends. For an edition I am going to be just reading, the cheaper the better. If it is a book by an Author I collect like Hemingway, Steinbeck, or King, then I will try to find a first edition. For my non-fiction books for my reference library, just a nice looking hardcover will do.
