I recently picked up a copy of the volume one of this book at a yardsale. I am not a real book "analyst" ,so I joined these forums to ask a question. Do any of you know how much this book is worth? I have been looking and need an opinion. The book is copyright 1859 ,and the only place I have ever seen it ,besides my own of course, is in an english bookseller for 300 pounds. I suppose is roughly $450. If anyone could give me an idea of a fair price for this book I would be very happy.

If you really want to know, you should take it to a reputable antiquarian book dealer. It depends on so many factors: edition, condition, binding, illustrations, it might even be a facsimile reprint. You wouldn't be getting a true valuation unless someone who knows about that particular book looked at your copy.
