Ella Enchanted

No, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I am going to soon. Grudgingly, of course. I am very dissapointed with how much they have changed this story. This was one of my favorite books as a child, and I still really enjoy it today, but from the changes they have made and the serious dislike I have for Anne Hathaway, I am upset at what they seem to have done to this personable Cinderella story. By the way, if you haven't read this, I STRONGLY recommend it. It's very well written. So well written, in fact, that I didn't even realize it was a Cinderella story until the very end. Pathetic, I know, but true. Anyway, please voice your opinions of this wonderful book and far-fetched movie.

I enjoyed the book quite a bit, it was funny and interesting and Ella was spunky, which was something that always bothered me about Cinderella (what a drip!)

I've read a few reviews of the movie, and I don't think I'm going to like it. I liked Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries but don't think she suits here. The story was perfect the way it was, and I think would have been very well suited to a movie without all the changes they made. I can see the movie with Alexis Bleidel - that would've been good.

What kind of changes did they make? I haven't heard anything about it, it isn't even advertised at all in my area.

Wow, I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one who didn't realize Ella Enchanted was a Cinderella story until the very end! I felt really foolish when I found that out! :p

They gave it sort of a flip attitude with lots of throwaway jokes and modern references. Sort of like "The Knight's Tale", I guess.

Except I actually enjoyed "A Knight's Tale"...maybe it was just Heath Ledger though...

I haven't gotten a chance to see the movie yet, but I loved the book. Some of my friends say although it is not really like the book and just a take off on it, it is still pretty good. Although the previews for it make the movie look stupid.

When I started reading Ella Enchanted, I noted that there seemed to be a fairy godmother figure and a prince figure in the first chapters, but quickly lost myself in the story. So I really didn't realize that it was a Cinderella story until the last chapters. :D As for the movie... well, I don't really want to watch it, but my sister probably will, so I'll have to see it. Are the previews for the movie stupid?

Ella

I saw the movie with my 9 year old daughter. We both liked it. Well, she says she loved it. I thought it was cute, and a lot of my enjoyment of it came from knowing that my daughter was enjoying it. It seemed a bit more "flip" with modern references as someone said above (the cast sings "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" at the end), and I think it would be best to go to the movie without expecting it to be like the book.

I wasnt really interested in Ella Enchanted - the book. I couldnt stand it when she had to go tell her new best friend that she didnt want to be her friend any more. I stopped there. I have tryed reading it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times. The movie was ok. I liked how Anne Hathaway played Ella, as Anne is my favorite american actress!!
