feeling aimless

Sometimes I'm kind of overhelmed by the feeling of being completly useless and aimless. I think it is connected to autum and winter when the days become shorter. And I hate feeling like that.
You are thinking of your coming life and you are kind of afraid of the future. So you just stick to your cosy bed for several days and refuse to do anything. Growing up and being responsible for your own life seems sometimes to be pretty tough. I know I should keep myself busy in such times and don't think to much about it, but sometimes it really bothers me.
What I wanted to know: Is anyone else feeling like that sometimes?
'Cause all my fellow student seem to know exactly what they want and how to get it.

By the way do you know any good (highly frequented) student forums?

Gizmo,
The way you're feeling really doesn't have an "age" attached to it. An 80 year old can feel just as you do now.
It's all about how you feel about yourself. As long as you have a good dose of self-esteem, you're 2/3rds of the way there. As for life being scary, well, I should hope so, otherwise, it could be quite dull, and you wouldn't appreciate all the good times you've had unless you had a bad time to compare it to.
As for a fun forum for you, try "Killer Movies Community Forums". I really enjoy it, and there's tons your age, tons of different subjects, and the rules are FAR less strict than this site.
Good luck
;)

I think most ambition is the result of fear. it's obvious, you want to guarantee a comfortable future for yourself. without that, who can say for sure what will happen? maybe you'll become homeless and die. our parents tell us this is what's in store if we sleep our lives away and don't get careers. again, maybe, but the last thing we should do is let fear motivate us. looking at where you are right now, I think that's the cause of your anxiety.

You'll get all the biology (human anyway) that you need in the first verse of this song. :D

Other than that, sorry, I don't know any. Maybe www.about.com has a biology forum; it has one for everything else.

it could be worse. youre learning youre young you have your health. what more do u need.
direction wil come sooner or later. anyway youve got direction>>learn about biology et al

Yeah bobby! You are definitley right about that homeless thing. When I see bums it gives me the creeps!
It's just all the pressure about millions of things you have to think of. Sometimes it just hits me!

Whenever I get those feelings (and I'm 41, so yes pretty universal), I start by taking just a few baby steps to get myself out of it, like getting out of the bed and then, even if I stare at it for an hour first, making the bed, then getting dressed, etc. If I can get myself that far, I usually find a little more energy and get out of the house. If I can do that, then I try something new or different, visit a new place, try a new restuarant, take a long walk and take in the fresh air. That's usually enough to give me a new perspective on things.

Well Gizmo, as you can see, there's lots of people who care enough about you to try and cheer you up.
Maybe you're doing quite fine after all.

Thx I like that forum and just registered (Roscoe 'cause Gizmo wasn't free).

Yeah I know that there are people who care. Thx!
It's just that life sometimes seems too big. :D

I'm glad you registered! They do have a book forum, but from what I can see, it's not used as often as the "General Discussion" or "Philosophy" forum. I'll warn you now, there are plenty of immature idiots who just want to pick a fight. Just ignore them, because the smart and interesting people make up for the losers who merely want attention in an "odd" sort of way.
Isn't that the way on any forum?
:p

We all have our down times. Irene gave good advice. Take one little step at a time, even if all you end up doing is getting showered, dressed and outside. You'll feel better. The future can be a scary thing because so much of it is out of our control and people in general like to feel in control of things. When it gets overwhelming, try to just focus and worry about the things you can control, like making sure you study and passing exams. And just because all of your fellow students look like they know what it's all about doesn't mean they do.

The-Baby-Step-Strategy is the best!!! Thx

I would also have to agree with Irene's "baby step" method. I know that if I sit around watching TV or sit at the computer for a while, I lose all motivation to do anything. But once I'm up and moving around, I often get a burst of energy and end up accomplishing a lot of the things that I've had planned for the day.

Speaking of which, I'd better get up and get some things done...

I don't do anything all day, and my life is damn fine. though, one time I lost some shiny bottlecaps I really liked, but I found them, and now everything is great.
