i'm almost finished with jean genet's the thief's journal. before that I read VALIS (coincidentally BotM), and before that The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano. I've tried finishing Gravity's Rainbow but I lack the motivation, stuck 500 pages in. Other things I like: Murakami, Borges, the Beats, Tom Robbins...

I'd like something pretty and elegant but contemporary and fast-paced if you know what I mean.

Here's some adjectives to jump start your brain: whimsical, cosmic, peaceful.

Hi blindingsunlite-
I don't really know any of those authors, but i thought i'd post anyways because i'm reading a pretty good book right now. It's called Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult. It is a depressing but insightful novel, as are most of Jodi Piccoult's book. Hope that helps you a little bit, but maybe not.
