FLDS and the children

Yesterday there was a decision from three judges that CPS was in the wrong about taking away their children without proper proof.

Now they will slowly be given back and CPS has to go case by case.

Personally it saddens me to know those kids were yanked out of the only home they knew, but on the other side , it scares me even more to think of what they were doing to them.

What the decision too hasty? Did they rush the whole thing?
What do you all think?

I agree with you. I really dislike religious brainwashing of kids - actually I dislike religion in general but that's another matter ;) - but they should have investigated that original call a bit more diligently before acting on it. It seems as though they were just looking for an excuse. The law is the law, and it doesn't matter how much you don't like what it says.

Personally I think that if something is illegal (like polygamy), it should be illegal with no exceptions - I don't like this idea that there are exceptions if you can say that you need to do this or that illegal thing because of your religion. There was a case in California a few years ago where a religious sect was pretty much given the go-ahead to buy puppies from a local animal shelter and kill them because their religion required animal sacrifice. Anyone else would have been up in court, but these people basically got the thumbs up. However, I suppose that if this country does have religion-based exceptions for things like polygamy, it should be adhered to and they shouldn't be using anonymous phone calls as transparent excuses the way they did in the FLDS case.

It was obvious from early on that this was going to end up in a real mess because nobody really knew where that phone call had originated from.

Now they are having a hard time matching the kids to the parents.

Chaos, that's all I can say.

i dont really watch anything about that whole thing but it kind of had a whole HEAVENS GATES feel i thought..if thats what it was called? Just from the look of the place and the way they talked..i dont know.

I just wish there were a way to dissolve the whole sect. Too many kids with broken bones that weren't properly set -sends chills down my spine.

Some kids were returned today. They rushed, and now the kids are going to pay for it.

Well, for the sake of everyone involved, let's hope all the accusations were false, that all of these children will be allowed to grow up whichever way they want, and that this doesn't end up as a case of government-approved mass-rape. I mean, surely just because the leader of this cult has been preaching exactly that for years doesn't mean they'll actually do it.

And even if they do, hey, religious freedom, right?

I think that they had every right to get the girls out of there as quickly as possible.

I agree that the law must be followed, but in this case there needs to be some reality. Making CPS go case-by-case is tough and given that many feel (and have evidence to prove) that the same situation was happening throughout the community, I can certainly see why CPS acted in the way that they did.

What really disturbed me was the interviews the parents gave after the kids were taken. It was like watching robots talk! They had no emotion and seemed to be unaffected by what was going on. No tears, no anger, no outrage - nothing. To me, that should have been a sign that someone needs to look out for the kids.

In total, this is a mess.

Now, learning that all those poor children will be returned to those brainwashers; It just makes the whole situation even worse. With religious cults like that, those kids will probubly be severely punished for having all that "unholy" contact with the outside world; which wasn't even their choice. I'm sure they have now probubly been exposed to things like television, and the radio; things considered sinful within the cult. Not to mention the adults will probubly suspect that the children may have revealed confidential and possibly suspicious information about the entire organization. This could cause them to react even more violently, out of rage. If what those kids have already suffered wasn't bad enough, I can't imagine what they may have to endure upon their return.
