Fourier Analysis

Well, I’m in engineering school. I’m actually looking for a good book that introduces Fourier and explains Fourier Analysis in a descent and simplified way. I found lots of books in the library, but thought of getting an advice on a recommended book. The problem is that I don’t have much time to read. I want to cover Fourier Analysis in a matter of two days.

For whom who don't know Fourier, it's a mathematical series that is commonly used in Engineering and Physics.

Is it alright if I asked about a mathematics book? Since it seems I'm the first to do so ...

No - not Fourier and Laplace transforms  I thought I had seen the back of those several years ago ;)

Ok, the books I had were Engineering Mathematics and Further Engineering Mathematics by Stroud. He also has a fairly decent book on Laplace transforms in print.

Schaum do a relatively easy to follow book on Laplace, however if I remember rightly, it consists mainly of exercises to practice your understanding as oppose to detailed theory. Another rather good book is Fourier and Laplace Transforms by Beerends.

To be honest if you want to completely understand it in a very short space of time your best bet is to find a friendly post-grad who has done it before and get them to explain the priciples to you

I'll find you the links to the books I have mentioned above. I had the 3rd edition of Stroud's books but that was several years ago now.

Ok here are the links:

Engineering Mathematics - K. A. Stroud

Advanced Engineering Mathematics - K. A. Stroud

The two I had were:

Further Engineering Mathematics - K. A. Stroud and also Engineering Mathematics by K. A. Stroud - I can't find a link to the exact copy I had (it was similar to the Further Engineering Mathematics except it was green as oppose to red). I assume that the two above have superceded these.

Laplace Transforms - K. A. Stroud

Schaum's Outline of Laplace Transforms

Fourier and Laplace Transforms

Wow! That was a great help Ice. Thanks a lot for your help and for the useful links.

Well, I was thinking of going through them with an instructor, but I don't like much the idea. I prefer to go through them by myself. I guess if urgent, I'll go for it ;) and thanks again for the advice.

Hey Samerron, I'm also an engineering student. Currently i'm specializing in communications so I know my fair share of fourier stuff.

I liked a book by Oppenheim, I think it's name was something like Discrete Signal Analysis or something along those lines. But i'm not sure if it had the basic introduction to fourier series' and transforms.

And how are stuff going in Beirut? It doesnt look pleasant.

Glad to hear there's another Engineering student here :). Well, I'll be specializing mostly in electronics and computer engineering. I took a course on Computer Networks. Well, learning Fourier is going fine.

Concerning the situation in Beirut, it's getting worse. We have halted the summer classes and unfortunately we don't know how or when this conflict is going to end. :(

Yep. So far it looks that this will only escalate. I'm an Israeli btw and one of the guys I studied with in primary school was killed during the early hours of the fighting. I dont actually remember him, but it's still close to home.
