Francisco Goldman: The Night Of White Chickens

Finally finished The Long Night of White Chickens by Francisco Goldman. While the story was interesting, and I enjoyed learning about life in Guatemala, the book was not that wonderful. Viewpoints changed often, usually in the form of the main character recalling events of the past, talking to various other characters-including his murdered sister, or flashes of insight from unknown sources-where the MC suddenly 'knew' facts known only to the dead woman..I doubt I'll look for more of Goldman's books.

Have any of you read this? What did you think?

No abc, I haven't read it - and now I don't need to!

I remember seeing it when it appeared in English language translation in - what? - the early 90s. I thought it must be a wacky, lightly comic, magic realism sort of book. Was I wrong?

Considering I goofed on the name of the book for the thread title, its a wonder anyone knows what I meant:rolleyes:

There was nothing funny, whacky, or lighthearted about The Long Night of the White Chicken. Nor did it contain any magical realism..This was a case where I'm really glad to have used the library for this one!
