Golly, when will they ever learn?

As much as I love technology, nothing beats having a dead tree in front of you. It is cheap, convenient, and is not subject to DRM.

I don't even want to think about the idea of reading books on a screen. BLEH. its...its...GRRR I better stop cuz I totally can start preaching and that can't be good :p

I am amused by the comment made how it is not meant to replace a paper book, but a stack of paper books because people will be on the go reading their device. I don't know anyone who carries a stack of books when they're on the go (unless they are traveling with suitcases on a trip) in the subway or such.

I prefer my paper books. The might not be compact and space efficient but they have personalities and memories attached to them. Well worn old favorites with their broken spines and frayed edges remind me of all the times that I've visited those worlds between the covers.

Besides, can you imagine how these devices would handle a bit of underlining? One swipe with a pen or pencil, and you'd be needing another one pdq. As fragile as paper is, it's tough enough for that. And then we can talk about the social aspects of paper books..I doubt we'll see people swapping these gizmos like we do with a real book..not likely to happen! I also can't see cuddling up one of these and my kids for an evening read aloud before bedtime:p

that would be weird! A store full of...book ipods! Wow...huh I've never thought of that...it would be freaky. *shudders*

Wow. My hubby would love it if I got one of these. He's always complaining about the space that I take up with my books. However, I can see this getting pretty pricey if I get on a download frenzy (which I know I would). Also, I just can't see myself laying on the beach reading one of these. Something tells me sand, seaspray and Sonyreader would not be the wisest combination. You can brush the sand off of books and if the pages get a little damp, they'll dry out in a little bit. I wonder how much it would cost to repair one of these things after it got wet or got sand in it.

Ugh, I can't stand reading things on the computer monitor. For my personal enjoyment, I always prefer a nice solid old-fashioned book.

But, as a resource, I wouldn't mind a book online. If I'm up late (when the stores are closed), and I need a quick, last minute reference for school-related purposes, tech-based books can come in handy.
