Good Place to Read

any suggestions?

also, are places like borders and barnes and nobles okay with you bringing already purchased books into the cafe area and reading?
 
Let's see..There's the bathtub, the throne, waiting rooms, bed, my recliner in the living room, and my front porch-once the cats and the dog settle down, that is. I'm told that swim meets are good places to get a lot of reading done, but I'm not so sure about that. My dd has her first meet this Saturday, so I'll find out and report back next week. Personally, I'm praying for rain:p

I wouldn't risk it. Try Starbucks or some other coffee shop.

Anyway, I usually read in my bedroom but if the weather's exceptionally nice then I'll sit on the back porch and read. I'm not much for bathroom reading; I only do it if I don't feel like taking a break from the book.
 
Also...I love to sit by the window when it's raining and read. The sound of rain relaxes me and I get into what I am reading more.

I had a glider and ottoman.. it was great! What my dh and I want is a nice glider with a cover for the back yard..and a deck to put it on, of course. Which reminds me for some reason.. a hammock makes a nice place to read too..providing the cats and dog would leave me alone. The cats believed I was making a nice cushy spot for their lounging pleasure, and the dog figured I was putting my face at her eye level because I needed a washup:rolleyes:
 
I take whatever book I'm currently reading everywhere with me. On the bus, at the bus stop, hospital appointments, in the garden, on the sofa, in bed and even whilst I'm cooking the dinner. My favourite place to read though is in the park during the Summer :)
 
My living room couch, in bed, or my writing couch (which I wrote a post about on my blog). I have no problem reading at home because I don't have kids, yet, or pets so it's usually pretty quiet. I also love to read when it's raining - it's just so cozy.

I've gone to Barnes & Noble several times to just read in their cafe area and had no problem. I like the atmosphere. I'll keep going, too, until someone says something.
 
I have an awesome blue recliner that I use, it's also great for naps, which is how many a reading session has ended.

Can't read in public too often, people annoy me with their conversations and I then become very irritated and can't concentrate. I also loathe people who talk on their cell phone. Those loudmouths always find a place near me and then proceed to broadcast their lives to everyone-I hate them the most.

Thanks, now I'm annoyed.

I also have a nice blue recliner that I read in often. We just got it and I've been breaking it in every day with marathon reading sessions. I also like reading on the porch swing outside and on my bed. As for outside the home, coffee shops can't be beat. Except when there are annoying people with cell phones :p

Oh I agree. I have a ton of fond memories spending weekend hours reading and conversing with the most interesting people. I discovered two things: (1)Reading Ayn Rand will elicit a reaction every time; (2) You will never get bored talking to an unemployed and homeless anarchist.

Except when there are annoying people with cell phones :p

In Europe, you can buy "jammers" that you can take to theaters or other public places and enjoy yourself without some blabbering boob a row or two behind you yammering on and on. Unfortunately, such devices are illegal in the U.S. :rolleyes:
 
If I drank coffee I wouldn't think anything of sitting in Borders' coffee shop and reading whatever book I've brought with me.

Me neither... not if I purchased a book beforehand. I just feel awkward going to a bookstore just for the sake of reading a book that I already own and could read at home. But if people don't have a problem doing so, then that's great.

Why not? I often stop for a "snack break" after a long shop through the book store. A nice grilled cheese sandwich makes the difference between a sleeping angel and an angry toddler on the way home. I always have a book with me, and it is very rare that I pick a book out of my purchases bag to read. If the book I'm reading still looks new, I'll make sure it is in plain sight when I walk in the store with it. People see me, cameras see me, nobody can accuse me of theft.

To me, the more important point is "why would you want to sit at B&N and read?" The chairs are uncomfortable (I've always wondered if this is intentional), the internet isn't free and the food is expensive and mediocre. I only stop there out of desperation. I much prefer locally owned restaurants and coffee shops. If I'm in a shopping area, I tend to look for a normal Starbucks or a Panera Bread. They tend to be more welcoming.
