Gore Vidal: Live From Golgotha

Live from Golgotha by Gore Vidal

Well, I leapt in to try some Vidal and this was one of two that I selected.

The story of Timothy, early father of the Christian church, and 'Saint' (Paul), and some time travel and the fight between TV companies to go back and film the crucifixion and ...

An extraordinary piece of imaginative fiction – iconoclastic, blasphemous and very, very funny. This works on so many levels, including as a look at the nature of religion, the nature (from a vaguely historical perspective) of what Christianity is and where it comes from, of how things never really change, and the nature of memory (Vidal very cleverly mixes the ancient and the modern to make a number of points about the world in which we live to today, as well as to illustrate his ideas about memory).

Written in superb style; very camp and very knowing, with a mass of jokes at the expense of current affairs, culture etc. Huge fun.

Has anyone else read it?
