I'm presently reading 1876 by Gore Vidal and I'm enjoying it immensely. I do have to say that I thought Burr was the better book, I'll never forget that one as long as I live. In regards to Doctorow's books, Ragtime undoubtedly gets the nod in my opinion of being the best book that he has ever written. I have not read his most recent work regarding the Civil War, but many do view him as a fine writer of historical fiction. With that being said, who is the better writer of historical fiction?
