Hello, just wanted to introduce myself a little. I am 42 years old (will be 43 in a few days), native Californian, and love to read/collect books. I work as an English tutor at a local college and have been there for about 20 years now.

My wife ( a librarian herself) is encouraging me to finally get my degree and transfer to a state U for a chance to teach English.

My main love is American Literature and my favorite author is, shockingly, Jack London.

Aside from reading and book collecting, I also enjoy collecting autographs, baseball cards and linen postcards.

If I could live anywhere in the world, I would choose to live in San Francisco area. Have lived my whole life in Southern California, but would love to move north!

Hi JackLondon, welcome to BAR.

Book collector or book hoarder? I confess to being a little of both.

Thanks all. I am aspiring to be a mere collector rather than a hoarder. Recently went through our bookcases (all 14 of them) and found a bunch of duplicates and ones I didn't need. Donated 12 bags of books to the library used book store and I still don't have enough room.

As far as what Nor Cal has that Southern Cal doesn't? Trees is indeed one thing. Fewer people is another. I also prefer the slightly variant weather up north. But, even without as many trees, we still get more than our share of wildfires down here. Earthquake-wise, it is a draw between North and South.

Ultimately, whenever my wife and I travel North (about once or twice a year) we yearn (yes, yearn) to move the Hades outta Southern Cal. However, lack of money and slim prospects of finding adequate work keep us festering away down here.

Oh well, some day....
