Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban kicked ass.

the change in directors made a world of difference. i'm a fan of the first two films, but this installment is by far the best of the bunch. from start to finish i enjoyed it, and highly reccomend it. if i were to rank the films now i'd go...

1. Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone
3. Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets

the first two films seemed more like a year in the life of Harry Potter, while this film actually seemed like an evolving story. a lot of people complain about the kids acting ability but i always thought they all fit their roles well enough. i'm a Draco Malfoy fan so i was happy to see him get a decent amount of screen time in this movie. i don't really want to get into the movie because i'm sure many haven't seen it, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. i hope the new director stays on for the remainder of the films... ..

Thanks for the review, Buddy!!! I'd been hearing not-so-great things from fans of the books (mostly that it was ok, but not fantastic). I still had been excited to see it, but had not been overly hopeful that I would enjoy it as much as I had previously thought. I still haven't seen it, as I didn't want to have to stand in long lines, but now I can't wait to get to the theater!

Watched it on IMAX and thought it was the best so far. The special effects could've been better, but oh well...

Just FYI, the director has already changed for the 4th film!

:( nooooo, say it ain't so...

and to Becca,

i've read a lot of these reviews from hardcore Potter fans that were trashing the movie too. all i can say is if they didn't like this film i don't see how they could have enjoyed the first two. this one is clearly a superior product. definitely worth checking out.

i'm just suprised i was able to get a ticket yesterday. we have a pretty big theatre with showings for Potter roughly every 30 minutes. i got there at 1:25 and with the exception of the 5:00 show every one was sold out. i snatched up a ticket for that one thankfully. it amazed me how quickly it sold out, it should have a good weekend.

The diehard Potter fans seems upset that it deviated a bit from the book. Of course, everything in the movie is pretty much approved by Rowling so I guess it's OK with her.

I think the 2nd one followed the book too slavishly, and it lags in a lot of places. I'm interesting in seeing the 3rd one, I think I'll like it.

I saw Prisoner last night. I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard fan, but I'm close. However, I enjoyed the movie. I think the reason die-hards are upset is due to the fact that the movie left so much of the story out, but I don't think they had much choice. If they'd left all of the book intact, the movie would've been five or six hours. It seemed to me that they did take the important parts out of the book. That being said, I still enjoyed the book one hundred times more, but I thought the movie was good.

The cinematography was fantastic, and the little details were wonderful. It seems to me that the new director paid more attention to putting in the little details, as well as focusing on the story. I'm going to have to see it again, though, to focus more on the movie than trying to piece together which parts of the story got integrated into the movie and which ones got left out.

Yes, I definitely think the movie kicked ass! :D

I'm a Harry Potter fan but I wasn't upset with the way Alfonso directed the film. Although he did quite have that tendency to zoom into the faces of the actors/actresses, which is alright really, because MAN IS DANIEL LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER! ;)

The only thing I'm upset about is that
they left out the Quidditch championships, supposed to be a really huge part of that book. Argh. It was disappointing I didn't get to see Oliver Wood!
The way the dementors were designed is amazing.
Plus they put in more nice bits to the time-turner part!

A+ for this movie. =)

it seems that cuaron try to reflect the fact that they are tenegers now, and thus make the film more enjoyable for a bit older audience, with the blessings from the writer.
i found sort of an interview but its in spanish http://www.t1msn.com.mx/entretenimiento/cine/art045entcinpottermexicano/ so ill try to translate the most relevant, sorry if my tranlation its not that good, but at least ill give it a try

it was a necesary complexity of the characters, points the mexican director, since harry potter and his friends are about 13 years old, they have left behind the simplicity of childhood, and now are facing the complexitys of puberty

"being loyal to the books spirit i try to show, besides the adventure, humor and magic depicted in the harry potter novels, the hard way started by a kid when he starts to become an adult" says cuaron

"harry as ron and hermione are growing up, to them life its not longer a game, it begins to be a more complex matter, with infinity and rich shades, a season where introspection its present" said

cuaron - who confess to have discard the projet at first because "¿who cares to do a sequel?" stated one of the ups to do the movie was the opportunity to continue a constant in his filmografy: "transcitions and growing up"

in 'y tu mama tambien' (and your mother too) (2001) y en 'little princess' (1995) i made a recon in tenagehood, now with harry potter i was interested in that awakening of the kids in the harsh world where we all live, where thing stop being black or white, existencial doubts appear and we realize that adults are not as perfect as we used to believe" points the director

the most glad of this harry potter introspective search in the film are the parents of the thousands of kids and tenagers that love the character and drag their parents to the movie teather.

"in the previous ones you had to endure hours of a film with a pace for kids, it was like somebody was reading a book to you, this time there its more action and the characters are more human like" said to EFE deyanira suarez, a venezuelan mother who took her two daughters (9 and 12 years old) to one of the pre scrennings in miami.

the kids reactions were mixed, the 9 year old mirta said "thats wasnt harry potter"; at the same time to her sister mary, harry seem to be "very handsome" also pointing to her mother that hermione "already its using a bra"

cuaron stated to be pleased with this reactions and considered them to be satisfactories since they show that he could "get a touch with different ages and persons" and no only the fatihfull fans of harry.

explains that besides the work with characters he try to build a filmic narrative "compact and dinamic which would set aside -confusing inecesary stuff- (have no idea how to translate redundancia) that may make they narrative heavier" adds the director, who thanks the british writer joanne k. rowling, the author of harrys potter saga, the freedom to interpret the novel.

"doing harry potter and the prisioner of azkaban' has been one of the betters decitions of my life" admits cuaron

whatsoever, he rejected the offer to make the fourth film in the saga, "harry potter and the goblet of fire" - which starts filming soon under mike newell direction-, so he can work in two projects: "one in USA and the other one in MEXICO. whichever comes first"

the first part of the article talks about some influences of cuaron being mexican reflected in the movie, for example it says that edition beat, colors and certain "barroque -ism" remainds of the overcrawled mexico city, also speaks of the soul sucking monsters have a feeling of a certain mexican spook legend and so on, you know latinamerican influences reflected in the film.

*redundante means when a concept is repeated in excess, if somebody can tell me the right word for that, would be really nice
cya

no problem the only regret its that after i finished i try the worldlingo site with large text, and i got a fairly good translation :(
usually when you use just a few words the output its not very good so i decided to translate all by myselft

so now i know better for the next time

lol oh well :)

Anyway, it was a nice think to do for us and so was not a wasteful thing to do. Thanks still apply :)
