I'm kind of curious about this as I know that it has definitely influenced my own spending habits. About a year ago, I would've purchased four or five books through amazon.com and not have thought twice about it. Since July, I've focused more on library and second hand books from Goodwill. How about you?

Not really so far. I know many people in the U.S. have been laid off and such. I've been fortunate enough to have a steady job although I am saving more money just in case.

Not really, no. I just buy whatever books I want to. I don't like shopping online though, I prefer browsing in a bookstore. :)

Yes, it has. I am at zero for the foreseeable future and have been for some months already.
Now is when the TBR pile of several hundred will come in handy, although I am even having trouble finding time to get to them. Haven't finished one book yet in the new year.
Bleak times here in the real world.

In the sense that I've bought a lot more books in the last year, yes.

Well, if the economy goes belly-up and you're stuck at home with no job and no entertainment prospects, you'll have plenty to read. The news ain't all gloom and doom!

No change in my book buying habits, but should such a time come there's over seven hundred titles sitting around. Continued reading is assured.

There are threads over at Ravelry concerning yarn stash that are similar to this one, and many people express very similar sentiments. I think the common theme there is 'Mindful Stashing'. Our purchases stimulate the economy, but if the worst happens, most of us have plenty of 'stash' to keep us busy for some time.

I have always tried to spend small amounts of money. As for buying books yes I have brought less due to the fact I have so many books to read that I have over the years and have not got around to reading so it is about time I catch up with reading them.

Oh, definitely! It's a sad situation and I'm sad to admit it but as a struggling writer (lol) it's hard to be able to afford books *and* food! Sometimes I feel like books feed me more, or at least my soul if I have one :whistling:

Yep--used bookstores more than ever, and they have a finer selection than before, since people are selling off their books.
