hi

i do some writing and i've just had a book published. my publisher has been able to get some reviews etc in peripheral/special interest media, but getting mainstream media coverage has been backbreaking - and ultimately futile.

have tried book copies, phoning, letters, emails etc. (the theme is security work in iraq and africa.) but although i and the publisher been able to speak to asst editors and so on, we've not quite made it.

anyone any ideas re getting the message around?

many thanks.

I'm no marketing expert so it would stand to reason that I should take a shot. You've probably tried everything I am going to suggest anyway. Where did you distribute those book copies? Try Hollywood coffee shops, health food stores and yoga studios thereby targeting those idealists in the motion picture industry. If that doesn't work try Washington D.C. and drop off copies to the offices of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. If one of the first two happen to mention it on the House or Senate floor you can bet Fox News will give you some notice. It may not be the glowing praise you want but any publicity is good publicity right? Sorry if this seems totally unrealistic but maybe it generates an idea or two for you.

Blogs is the most probable. Probably not literary blogs, but ones that cater, no matter how tangentially, to your subject matter. Usually should mean asking the blogger if interested and sending on a copy for review if they say yes.

He says he's in the UK so that would make dropping off copies in D.C. no small feat.

Adding to what Stewart said, you should contact a few defense related blogs.

Yah, I thought about that but if he could get to the U.S. he might have a few more ways of getting it some exposure. As unfamiliar as I am with trying to do something like this I can only guess at ways to do it in my own country, let alone the U.K.. I think meeting people that have access to channels for publicity and them getting to connect a personality with the book would be the best possibility. The Internet is saturated with blogs.

ok ....

.... thanks guys. yeah, am on a few defence related blogs. business networking sites, too. it works - just. but there aren't regular sales. it's the odd one-off.

re the US, the MS is with some literary agents and there is some interest. same thing with a publisher in Oz. if i could get the book into either, the publishers and i would be happy bunnies!

cheers

I would like to recommend a website that will help you in showcasing your work to a very large audience on a global scale. They have been a part of the publishing community since 75 years and are well-known and respected in the industry. They allow you to showcase your work in book exhibits, book fairs at a national and international level. Combined Book Exhibit - a worldwide book promotion and book marketing company, the services offered by them are at a very low cost.
