Hello Everyone - The Bookers & Others!!

Hello everyone I found this forum from a link on rec.arts.books - I'm an avid reader having took on novel reading only late last year. I have read military history, Biographies etc for over 20 yrs and Sci Fi before that. I have given myself the challenge of reading all the Booker / Whitbread /Orange prizewinning books, for no greater reason than the fact that it is an eclectic list with books I would never have heard about or even picked up. I use mainly charity shops to buy the books and this is part of the crusade, to find the books of a printed out list of the prize winners.

Starting just before xmas I have been introduced to such Authors as Barry Unsworth , Margaret Atwood , Salman Rushdie , JM Coetzee , JG Farrell , Kazuo Ishiguro to name but a few!!. If I like an author I will then go out and find their other works so I have an unlimited supply of books for my TBR list!!

I usually read a book then write a small original review for it posting them on a few other Book websites - would anyone like me to post them here then we could chat about them??

I can't do that, I get on kicks for certain types of books or a certain author to much and binge on them. :) Ah, I have finally fallen victim to one of the biggest college problems sweeping the globe, binge reading. It's not pretty folks.

So where should I point my reviews ? I like to post them then discuss them with people who have read them - here or elswhere??

Its a complex site !

Hi and welcome to the site. All our reviews are in the library. To post a review, search for the book, and then click the add review link. You'll need to enter your username and password again as the library can't read your forum cookie just yet. I'd also recommend writing your review offline and then copying and pasting.

If the book isn't in the library just yet you can either submit it, or drop me an email with a list of books to add (you could send in the review at the same time and I'll try to add it).

Thanks.

Darren.

Thanks for that - I've posted Alias Grace and I have many more . Should I put it here as well or do the discussion links point here? . The worry I have and I've said this elswhere - I lack the literature education to write really comprehensive critical reviews they are more like personal musings on a theme. See what you think.

Your review is absolutely fine. You don't have to have any literary education. Most people are just looking for a good honest opinion about the books. Reviews can be brief or they can be long.

The discussion links will point to the forums so there's no need to duplicate a review here. You can start a discussion about a book, and then link to your review if you want to.

The library will also produce a list of your reviews so you can use it like a personal book-log to keep track of all the books you've read and what you thought about them.

Yes, I'd figured out that much (replacing the 'Mike' by 'Martin'), but do you know how I browse to that list?

Thanks.

Cheers

Go into the library, choose advanced search, then enter the name in search by reviewer.
