Good day to all in this forum,
I need a favour from all you well read people.

I need to know the title of this novel/book. I'm gonna be able to provide a vague description but i really hope that you know which book or at least give me a list of books which could possibly help narrow down my search. anyways here's the vague description of the book.

a village or civillisation is isolated from the rest of the world or maybe isolated from the real world ... people there are controlled... the village has one leader who knows about what's outside of the boundaries of the village. but i think he/she also may be blind ... and the time has come for him/her to pass down his information to the next leader ... and im not sure .. but once the info is passed down .. the leader's memories get erased or he/she gets killed .... this is all i know on the book... i really hope that some of you have read of such a book...one thing for sure .. this is not the chrysalids ..by john wyndham.. that is confirmed ..
please pass me me whatever helpful information you may gather as this is very important. This was the description given to me by someone who needs this book badly.. Im not sure what genre it is as well or whether it's a kid's or adult book. Please reply if any of you have info on this vague description of a book.
Thanks and have a nice day.

That sounds a lot like The Giver , by Lois Lowry. I can't be sure, but here:
The ALAN Review - Laura M. ZaidmanWinner of the 1994 Newbery Medal, Lowry's thought-provoking fantasy challenges adolescents to explore important social and political issues. The Giver trains twelve-year-old Jonas as the next Receiver of Memory, the community's receptacle of past memories. This seemingly utopian society (without pain, poverty, unemployment, or disorder) is actually a body- and mind-controlling dystopia (without love, colors, sexual feelings, or memories of the past). In an exciting plot twist, Jonas courageously resolves his moral dilemma and affirms the human spirit's power to prevail, to celebrate love, and to transmit memories. From the book jacket's evocative photographic images-The Giver in black and white; trees in blazing color-to the suspenseful conclusion, this book is first-rate. Just as Lowry's Number the Stars (which received the 1990 Newbery Medal) portrays the Danish people's triumph over Nazi persecution, The Giver engages the reader in an equally inspiring victory over totalitarian inhumanity.

yap

yap i guess its "the giver" but the old man did not die and he is not blind to the reality beyond their borders. HE is well aware of it and thats is why he was born to suffer just because he has the knowledge.

I stand corrected though. Ive read it 5 years ago and the plot is quite vague for me now.

It sounds like "The Giver" to me aswell. Great book! (except for the ending, grrr.)
