Hi,
Back in the late seventies I read a book about a Navy pilot in WWII who was pulled into a Marine Corps mission to an island in the South Pacific. The members of the mission were transported to the island in a submarine, which was either depth-charged or struck a mine (can't remember) but the end result was the sub sank just off the coast of their target island.
The navy pilot took 3 or 4 of the guys and got them out of the sub and to the surface of the water and then on to the island. In the end, two of them were able to steal a plane and get back to their base, after destroying the runway to stop the enemy from using the island as an airbase.
Does anyone know what book this was?
Thanks in advance!!!
