1. Does skinny dipping mean taking a bath (in a lake or so) naked?
2. What does six pence the richer mean?
3. What is a narc?
4. Is skiddish a word?
5. Does anyone know what the abbreviation ROTC stands for? Something military?

Thx :D

1. Skinny dipping is getting naked (amongst company) and throwing yourself in a nearby vat of water.

3. Sounds vaguely like 'nark', as in narked off in which case it means pretty annoyed with. . . but I've a feeling that's not the answer you were searching for.

4. Reminds me of skittish and skid marks. . . both of which I would merrily elaborate on.

1. Does skinny dipping mean taking a bath (in a lake or so) naked? Yes
2. What does six pence the richer mean? Don't know. Sorry.
3. What is a narc? A civilian or undercover informer who tattles on drug dealers to the narcotics authorities. A "narc" is a bad guy to the bad guys.
4. Is skiddish a word? "Skittish" is twitchy or jumpy
5. Does anyone know what the abbreviation ROTC stands for? Something military? Yep. It stands for "Reserve Officer Training Corp" In high schools in the U.S., the Junior ROTC is early military training and will guarantee a PFC (Private First Class) or higher immediately upon enlistment.

In Sense and Sensibility ...not six pence the richer : not better off money-wise because of their spending.

As Cathy says, but a narc can also mean a drug squad cop, undercover or otherwise, as well as an informer. There used to be a word "Nark," too, which, in this part of the world at least, meant anyone who was an unwelcome pain in the arse. Too easily confused with "Narc" to be used much in conversation these days.

Sixpence the richer means what it sounds like — financially a bit better off, but not enough to brag about. If you come away from a card game sixpence the richer, for instance, you didn't make much, but at least you didn't lose.
