How can having a history book published by a university press help my resume?

I'm an author without a college degree wondering how having a history book published by a university press can help my resume in the job market (writing and otherwise). The problem is the size of the printing and the market they are gojng after is so small and also a market I can hit without the press. I'd make more money self-publishing, but I've got to think being published by a University Press will help my resume. Any advise?

I don't know all that much about it, but I would think it would look better on your resume than self publishing.

well i guess is always good to have the name of a respected institution asociated to your work, and would be really good if your book is of the technical or academic sort

Really? By a university press? That's great! That looks much better on your resume, especially because self-publishing does nothing for your resume.

Don't worry about the money and small press run. If the book is a smash, it can be reprinted and marketed more widely.

I too was reluctant to mention my non-fiction publications (mostly on climate) on my fiction writing CV - or my degree qualifications etc. But my agent insists it shows you have a history of in-depth research and writing.

So, go for it.
