How to get hits on website without posting spam?

Does anyone know how to...

For example, post in discussion forums an interesting new site without people labeling it as spam?

If the site covers a variety of interest and topics, but is in conjunction with a recently published novel?

Any suggestions? Any thoughts? I'll take ALL the wisdom and experience you are willing to give.

Do what most do - take part in the community and have the link in your signature. It at least shows a bit of respect for the forum you are using.
