How will you describe this?

Crystal

HI, all, :)

How will you describe your mind that is full of thoughts, maybe strange ideas. It is like thousands of horses running on your mind. Is it 'wild' a better word to describe it? or 'erratic', fickle, random? As simple as that ??

how you will put it?? I guess many of people on the bookforum would like to show some other ways to describe it.

I asked a friend about the word 'wild' a couple of days ago, because this word seems to me have some connotation of sexuality kinda thing. So, this is definitely NOT the best word to describe a mind full of crazy ideas, not bad ideas though.

Any kinda help is appreicated. :)

PS: maybe it is not proper to put this thread here. Moderator can remove to where it fits. Thanks.

The thread is fine right here.

And my choice would be erratic.

Can't think of anything better at the moment, but I'm sure some of our literarily gifted friend will have some good suggestions.

Cheers, Martin

erratic is good. I often feel as if my mind is frolicking through the lands of dreams, when its in the state you describe....and the thought process is most certainly erratic. Whimsical and capricious are also good terms for an active mind.

I always think of my thoughts as a runaway train when I have thousands of different thoughts running through my head all at once. Or, in a vicious circle when I'm thinking about the same series of connected things over and over again.

Hi, thanks again for giving the help, Chewbecca, and Tig, :) , well, Martin, as well, :) ).

In fact, I also wonder about this English Language. Have you ever come across the situation in which you found it difficult to express yourself in English? I mean, you just cannot find the BESTAND EXACT word/phrase to express how you are impressed. At that time, what do you do, resort to another language? or just say "word fail me."

very curious about this.

No, I generally give up :D

That and I don't speak other languages well enough to even contemplate trying to explain something in them, especially if the person doesn't understand my English explanation!

:D a lovely way to GIVE up though. heheh :)

But don't you worry about that? :) well, it does not matter atall. or maybe you don't care ? :)

No, no, no, you've all got it wrong, it someone who doesnt speak English doesnt understand when you speak to them, you have to repeat your phrase, only slower and louder!!

Then everything should become clear to them ... if this doesnt work then they are clearly just an ignorant foreigner :D

Phil

I guess if I'm that bothered about getting my point across, I'd find a way, such as signs or pictures etc (I'm great at pictionary :D ).

I was on holiday in Tunisia as few years ago, on a desert safari, and our driver spoke absolutely no English, and I can't speak Arabic, so we managed to get by in French, which both of us could speak to a certain degree (he was obviously a lot more fluent than I was, but as I was the only person in our party that spoke French, I was the one who talked with him all the time - in the end we understood each other quite well, using mainly French, but with bits of English and Arabic they we picked up. I guess they say, if there's a will, there's a way

wait, wait, wait, this is not exactly what i want to know. sorry for the misleading thing.

I mean, for example, if those people are kinda significant to you, will it be bother you if they just cannot see your points? If i may ask, :p will it bother you, if Phil/Ice can not understand each other, when one of you :) by chance cannot find the precise word?

Sorry for take you as example without your permission, I will delete them. :)

Of course I don't mind :) And sorry, I thought you were talking about people in general not understanding you.

As to your question, no it doesn't bother me because either way i'm always right :D

Edit:- Just re-read your post again, and no even if they can't find the right word it doesn't bother me as we always seem to know what the other means anyway

Ummmm, I think that it's not too important if you cannot find just the exact word that you are looking for. Communication itself is important! If you do not know the word you can just both keep talking until you understand what the other is meaning. Also, there are so many forms of communication between people and the words are only but one :)

Even when both speak the same language, you can sometimes not know the exact word but by communication you can know what the other means. As long as you both have the desire to share thoughts then it will never be a problem. :)

In conversation, its much easier to get meanings across...for one, its interactive (unlike writing) so you have an opportunity to discover if the person you're speaking with is understanding you point. You also have facial expressions and body movements to aid in the portrayal of your thoughts. Wabbit is right when he says that there are lots of ways to express your thoughts.

As to communication with your significant other, I find it to be entirely different than when I converse with other people. We have an understanding on a deeper level, and can often express our thoughts without having to finish off sentences or putting every detail into words.

:)Good question. I think "maelstrom" is a good word to use in this context - I visualise a sort of whirlpool of confused ideas with no beginning or end, where occasionally some semblance of a coherent thought will break the surface only to be dragged back down again before I can make proper sense of it.

I like this description! Thank you, Neil.

And This is what I wanted this thread supposed to be. I mean, share some of the desriptions of a certain situation. I explained myself so badly. :p
