Wabbit, just saw this about a new computer virus. Apparently no one needs to activate it, and it produces multiple error messages and causes the machine to randomly reboot. Have you checked into that possibility?

Talking about computer problems... I killed my last computer... i don't know how I did it, It wasn't even connected to the internet! I'm on the verge of killing this one as well... I removed 3 spyware programmes this week alone!

What're your problems?

Cheers, Martin

I was doing some system tidy. Defrag, reg clean, removing dead files with DustbusterXP. Thease are things I have done many times before with no problems... until now lol I was messing around with some icons and messed it up so did a system restore for the day before. When I went to came to boot I got an error informing me that it could not locate and load the local profile. Now every time I reboot it's like a fresh system. I have had to creat another account and switch users ( this one is fine ) as a work around. Anybody know how I can make the other account the prime account? I would lose some stuff with this work around solution but better than a full re-install

Don't think so, this one is down to the wabbit messing around :D My computer is not rebooting all the time and I have good virus checker/firewall protection. Thanks for the warning :)

Figured your protection was fine, but you never know when a new virus is out. Glad to hear its just down to messing around with the computer...of course, sometimes that can be worse.

I'd help you, but I don't have that much experience with XP, beyond using it on my dad's computer when I visit him. Good luck fixing everything! Computers are wonderful when they work and horrid when they don't.

Yeah, it's down to my stupidity, that's always a comfort :D lol

Anyway, thanks for the warning about the virus! I'm pretty new to XP myself. I guess you have one of those nice I-macs??? Also, thanks for the good luck wishes. I have a feeling that I will need all the good luck wishings that I can get :)

In that case, good luck (this is my way of saying: "I have no idea of how to help you, I don't even know how to make a restore point").

Cheers, Martin

Fairly new...I've had it for over two years now. I really want a powerbook or a G5, but they're a little out of my price range. Not that I don't love my little i-Mac. Especially after my last computer, which I had from my freshman year of college...it was horrible. The mother board sucked, which made everything else suck (though it would've been decent without a bad mother board) -> and the fan was installed backwards, which I didn't realized until my senior year of college. The one interesting thing about the computer, though, was that I could say "Corey Moore eyes" to it if it was having trouble rebooting, and that would solve my problems. Corey Moore was a defensive end on our (American) football team at Virginia Tech, and he had some big eyes...plus he was an awesome player. It was rather amusing, and it seriously worked everytime. We did tests just to see if it was random, but it didn't matter how many times I would try to reboot, it only worked when I told it "Corey Moore eyes." Its a long story about how it came about that we found out that little trick.

I do have to say that the one thing I find amusing about myself and computers is their keyboards. Everyone I know has killed a keyboard by spilling some sort of liquid into it. Not me, not that I've not poured bottles of Dr. Pepper onto the keyboard (by mistake) or rootbeer into it...I've never killed a keyboard. And this has happened with more than one (you can still see dried soda inside the one I have now). my dad spilled one drip of coke into his keyboard and it stopped working immediately. I've also accidently spilled half a bottle of Dr. Pepper into a powerstrip (it was pouring into the strip) and it didn't knock out the power strip or anything connected to it, which included my computer. I, in fact, still use the power strip and the Dr. Pepper incident was several years ago. And yes, I do have problems with spilling drinks everywhere. I spill at least one a month, but most of the time it just goes on the floor and not onto my keyboard.

Even an I-mac is out of my range! OS X looks nice :)

Just for the recored: I have an AMD Athalon XP 2200 ( over clocked :D ) 512 ram,GeForce TI 4200 ( overclocked ), and 100 gig hard drive! Much better than my old crappy Celeron p2 450 with 64 meg of ram and 12 gig hard drive! MY GOD it was so slow and crappy lol I guess I will have to upgrade again next year to play doom :D

lol

By the look and sound of it YES! Well.. you should see stalker, it looks even better than doom!

I think I will have to upgrade my graphics card because a lot of the next gen games use stuff the older cards just don't have. That sucks. Bastards!

Yeah, you are right, they are barstards.

Did you know that ATI is working with the creators of Half Life 2 so that the game runs a LOT better on their card and calls to featers that card has? The same with Doom3. Nvida is working with ID software and doing exactly the same thing. So if you have on card it will play great with one and not the other. The other thing they are doing is holding back cards to time with the game comming out in the stores. Bastards

Recently, there was a compition to code a game in only 64 K. The game that won is a fps with graphics comparable to any of the ones you see in the market right now!!! It just goes to show you what you can do if you really want to.

:) I will send a whole truck of best wishes, or a long train of good luck whishings. :p hope you are not overwhelmed.
well, seriously, good luck, wabbit, I am blindly believeing that you can FIX IT. :D

Thanks for the train of goodwishings! Can you send me some chocolate too? :D

I think I can fix it. I gave up for tonight though. I'll maybe try on the weekend. I have more time to research and IF I do totally mess things up I can always do a full re-install. Don't wanna attempt that in the week

*walks away to Rocky theme music*
