I need suggestions on a book...

Okay, i need suggestions on a book to read, but the catch is, it has to be a Canadian author.
I enjoy many drug, or drug-fantasy books, such as trainspotting, and requiem for a dream, sadly, neither are canadian.
Anyways, if anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated!

Or if your not sure if they're canadian or not, just put them down. Also if you think of a book that i might like, anythings welcome! Thanks alot.

Any specific reason why you want to read Canadian author only?
Looking at your username, I can take a guess that you are a major Canada lover :D
 
I can think of many good books by Canadian authors, but offhand can't think of any specifically that are about drugs or drug/fantasy. Are you only interested in these topics or are you open to others? What else have you read that you've enjoyed besides "Trainspotting" and "Requiem for a Dream"?

How about William Gibson, considered the father of "cyberpunk"? He wrote Neuromancer, Pattern Recognition, Mona Lisa Overdrive.

You might like Douglas Coupland or Margaret Atwood's "Oryx and Crake".
 
Off the top of my head, here are some drug-related memoirs and novels:

Naked Lunch, Permanent Midnight, On the Road, Some Hope, Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Smashed (new), Confessions of an Opium Eater, books by James Frey, Elizabeth Wurtzel, Go Ask Alice, and who could forget Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. . .oh, I just remembered a book I haven't thought about for years, The Teachings of Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda, which involves a bunch of peyote-induced hallucinations . . .

As for Canadian authors, Alice Munro has a new book out that's supposed to be stellar.

Well, i have to read a book by a canadian author, and then wrte what i thought, its kind of like a book report, back in middle school, except im in grade 12, and my teacher is stupid. :mad:

No, the book doesn't have to be drug-related i was just trying to catagorize what novels i have liked in the past, thats what "floats my boat"

Ell- I know william Gibson and Douglas Coupland, i was thinking about using Douglas Coupland.

Anyways the suggestions are awesome guys, if you have anymore ideas, or books i might like please share with me!

Grade 12 English, eh? I've been trying to come up with some that you might like or most easily relate to.

I love Alice Munro, but have a feeling you won't like her at this point in your life.

How about Timothy Findley? (The Wars, Pilgrim, Spadework)

Leonard Cohen: "The Favourite Game" .

Mordecai Richler: "Barney's Version"

Others you might try: Guy Vanderhaege, Roberston Davies, Anne-Marie MacDonald.
 
Thanks Novella, Go Ask Alice Looks liek a very interesting book as well. I will go pick that up more then likely to read on my spare time.
I'll also look into "Use Once, and Destroy" As my book to use.

I went through a long Robertson Davies phase, reading, I think, two trilogies back to back. He can be very absorbing, though strangely unmemorable.

Absolutely read Go Ask Alice!!! I read it when I was a teenager. It was just amazing. And furthermore - if you're like I was, this will be the best part - it's one of the books on the "banned" list for schools!! So there are grownups out there who don't want you reading it!!
 
on another forum a person loves 'Go ask Alice' so i guess it's good.

And not that it's Canadian but i'd recommend anything by Mathew Reilly.
