Ian McEwan: Sweet Tooth

Hi
I'm a newbie and may well be re-hashing what most people say, so, forgive, please?
I have just finished this novel and liked it and liked the plot twist (which I had read about in a review) and want to pose the rhetorical question, "Who do professional critics write for?"
The pros seem to feel the need to be mealy-mouthed and cautious , if not downright critical, this book was not particularly well-reviewed but was fascinating, a good read and transformed by the final chapter.
Wonderful stuff and a great read.

If you continue to do as you are doing -- reading both the book and critical opinion(s) of it -- pretty soon you'll notice which reviewers see books the way you do, and whose opinions you can therefore rely on On the other hand, some books you'll like, and some not. Have no fear; that's part of developing your own taste.
Happy reading
:flowers:
