Im thinking of buying a lizard!

Im currently looking into buying a lizard, I originally wanted a chameleon, but they need a lot of care and attention and are easily stressed, so I may have to settle for an iguana or a couple of monitor lizards instead, anyone now any info on how to get started or info etc???

Sorry for the obscure question...!

A better place to get started is a book. And find a website about pet lizards. Don't ask in the pet shop, it's likely to be manned by morons. Always get the book about the pet before you get the pet and not the other way round. That way, when you get to the pet shop you'll know what you're looking for. You'll know what are the signs of a healthy/unhealthy lizard, you'll know exactly what equipment you'll need to purchase, and you'll know exactly what awkward questions you need to ask in the pet shop to ensure that you're not buying some inbred freak of nature that's going to die the following week.

I don't personally know much about the upkeep of lizards. I know some, but not enough to advise. But I've kept a lot of different animals in my life, and the best plan is always to do your research independantly of the pet shop.

A quick search found this . Might be a good starting point for you.

Absolutely agree with Litany, research is the key to getting a good pet as opposed to one thats going to bite your grandma's head off and rampage around town with foam coming out of its mouth.

Of course, that still might happen, but at least then you'll know its your fault for feeding it a whole can of whipped cream :D

Thanks for all the replies, ive been looking all round the net last couple of days, and I plan on doing at least 3-4 months research before i get one too.

Cheers

Also agree with what has been said!

Personally, i'm thinking of buying a teradactyl. I'm not sure. I hear they can grow to be quite big

Only if you feed them peanuts. I bought a teradactyl off a bloke in the pub. Lovely little thing it is. Furry and soft, with these big cute eyes. Apparently they only get their wings when they hit puberty. Anyhoo, he said as long as I kept it way from peanuts, it shouldn't grow any larger than a small to medium sized dog.

I've got a photo of the little chap here...

Lovely temperament.

That's a lovely teradactyl you have there! A friend of mine got one from a bloke down the pub. He had to feed his on chum with marrobone! Must be the same guy!

They like bones and sticks too. You should tell your mate to try throwing a ball for the little blighter. Mine goes bonkers.

I'll let him no. His one has a strange penchant for cats! How strange! I wonder what they did before cats and sticks evolved???

Couldn't resist: it's pterodactyl. ;)

And on that note, an archaeopteryx would be a nice pet if they still made them. :p
