Bed, blankets, pillows, sleep. More of my favorite things in life. It's not unusual for me to have problems falling asleep. I've tried prescriptions from the doctor but don't like them because they leave me feeling drowsy the next day. I prefer the natural route: valerian root, tea, etc. I've tried hot baths before bed and reading, too. Sometimes they just don't work! So, I was wondering, what else can I do to help me fall asleep?

i have the same problem. the only thing that works for me is a good hard workout 2.5 hours before bed.

I stayed up till 6am the other night.... I find it easier to go to sleep after I've already been sleeping... like just before school...

If I'm having trouble sleeping, there's usually a reason why. Therefore, I find writing in my journal is very helpful. First, it clears my head of any clutter, but more importantly, it helps me figure out what's quite literally keeping me up at night. Doesn't always work, but it is helpful.

I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping. I try to keep myself on a fairly consistent schedule, waking up at 4:30 on weekdays (due to work) and 6:30-ish on weekends and make sure that I get around eight hours of sleep at most. I avoid caffeine in the afternoon and try to "wind down" about an hour before I want to be asleep. If I accidentally sleep in one morning, then it usually takes me a couple of extra hours to fall asleep.

I'm the same. I used to suffer from really bad sleep disorders. Had to see the doctor about it, got pills, therapy, the works. You have to get into a routine and stick to it. You especially have to pay attention to when your body is telling you it's tired and not then stay up an extra couple of hours to read that book or finish that movie.

Now I am the ultimate mistress of sleep. Sleep is my bitch.

Speaking of drinks...

If I have as little as one beer in the afternoon or evening, I'll end up sleeping an extra two hours the next morning if I don't set an alarm. I'm not really sure if liquor and wine have the same effect as I don't drink them very often.

I think sometimes when you can't sleep it is because you worry about stuff. Try and clear your head before you sleep, sleeping on your side I find helps me get to sleep easier. Get in what position you feel good in and then forget reality around you and hopefully you shall fall asleep.

I hear good things about melatonin. A friend of mine was on the heavy prescription stuff and now does just fine on the melatonin despite having a flipped schedule.

So when you're depressed you masturbate? Is that what you're trying to tell us? Or that you're depressed? Or you're an alcoholic?
