I just found this site on google... Finally I think I'll be able to find this book's name!

I read it many years ago... I can't remember the author's name, sorry.
It was a mystery novel, the main character was a police officer. He was given a case in which an old woman had died in her bed while sleeping. She had been smothered to death by her son's wife. The wife had murdered her mother-in-law because she had killed her grandson when he was a baby. I think that's the main part of the story...

And I'm not sure, but I think the author was a lady...

I remembered something else, the murdered woman's son was a politician (of some sort) and his baby was mentally retarded, that's why the old woman murdered the baby so her son's reputation would not be harmed. But her daughter-in-law saw her murdering the baby and that's why she killed the woman when she got a chance. Please please please can someone tell me the name of this story???
