I've entered a contest & I'm shamelessly asking for votes

I'm living up to the title of "Shameless Promotion"
I've submitted a cover design for a new book that will soon be published, called "Hulagu's Web". The contest is closed vote-wise Oct. 25, '04.
1st prize is $500.00 US plus publication & extremely-needed recognition. 2nd and 3rd prizes are something like $20 or $10 US, plus a notable mention. As you can see, it's an "all-or-nothing" sort of contest.
Here's my favour to all of you, as brother/sister "Book Forum-ners ". Click on to:
http://www.hulagusweb.com/index.htm?content=contest_book.htm , check out the covers submitted, then cast your vote.
My cover is #9 (remember, 9, 9, 9, 9, you're being hypnotized, 9, 9, 9.... )
You'll get to see 62 different ideas on how to sell a book to the walk-in customer, cover-wise. If you prefer a different cover, then by all means, vote for it. All Graphic Artists need a little stroking of the ego, and a vote sure helps.
Thanks a whole bunch.

but since its an all or nothing contest and you are in thrird place, and likes yours better than the first and second place. you have my vote (wouldnt even stop to think it if you were a regular member).
besides i always had this weakness for shameles girls :D

Thank you so much!!!! :)
Yes, for the life of me I can't understand this voting system at all. If I wasn't in this contest, there are a LOT of really good covers that certainly deserve votes, and I'd vote for 'em. What I love is the variety of them all. Remember the Paul Simon song:"Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover."?
Well, here's living proof that there's "62 Ways To Sell A Cover"!
:D
(Yeth, I'm thilly)

Sorry qg, read the covernotes for the book and couldn't help thinking your design was too good! IMHO your cover would be better suited to a more serious, possibly non-fiction book on those issues; the images are a bit too strong for (what I would consider, at least) the target audience for this book. The cover currently in first place is probably better suited. (I can only assume that the designer has been busy voting for him/herself, though I only hope they haven't already spent the prize money on model fees; I don't like to generalise, but that's a pretty lame attempt at a threatening-looking arab terrorist!)

ps I voted for you anyway. gl ;)

Wow.... I love your thoughts on this. Don't think I'm stupid, but what does "IHMO" mean? When I entered, all the information given to me was 2 paragraphs, so maybe I took it to the extreme? I really appreciate your vote though. Like, I'm at half the vote count on the other 2 people. If I can't win, all I really want is to be noticed by publishers and such, so that I can get a JOB or 2!
Thanks again.
P.S. I think the way it works is 1 vote=1 computer, so these people have LOTS of friends or LOTS of people tuned in and loved their covers.
You're super kind to take the time to be nice. Thanks for "Paying It Forward".

Abulafia,
Then I hope very much that you gave a vote for either 5 or 6 please! They really need a vote.... :)

I didn't read the covernotes; had no interest, to be honest. I'll agree with ControlArmsNow's comment about your cover being suited to a non-fiction book. I am, however, referring to the collage style and not the cover itself. I won't agree in that your design was too good. I honestly don't like it - it's just photographs and there's no real design to it that I can see; just five photographs positioned within a rectangle with some text over the top of them.

I voted for #6 as it honestly deserved the vote.

The reason I did not (although I can allow myself to now) is that I wanted a cover that grabbed me. Some are patriotic crap, others are just poor efforts, yours is a photographic collage that it just too noisy for a novel's cover, and others look out of place based on the content of the majority. #6, however, is nicely stylised and poses suggestions - the US insignia, the web that surrounds it (#3 tries this also but doesn't do it as well) and the dark moon fitting perfectly around the shape of the moon. The black moon and web are so suggestive that, if I were to walk into a book shop and pick one of the books off the shelf to have a read of the back then it would #6.

Ah well.... Like I had previously mentioned a few times, there were 62 entries. One vote = one computer, however, you've made #6 happier.
:)

Whoops! I just realised there's more than one page.

Hahahahahaha! HAH! Are you really angry now because all the best ones are on the later pages and you've wasted your vote?

It's hardly like I made you incapable of reading the website properly. I mean, I'm pretty simple, but even I saw there was more than one page. Or were you too busy looking a those new pics I sent you?

Just to make sure I understand this

This is rather amusing. Freya and Abulafia are having a nice chat/argument, and my email is always telling me what they're arguing about.
I take it that even though the comments are not directed towards me, but to the original open thread, I have the pleasure of having a "window" to all these conversations?
If so, this is going to be a blast.
:D

Yes - fun isn't it? I can't possibly see why people ever want to stay 'on-topic'.

To solve your problem - why not unsubscribe yourself from the thread? Then you can just check the thread when you fancy and read the bits you like. I'd say it's a worthwhile exercise, considering how many penguin fanatics are knocking around...

Far too busy looking at them. I was surprised that the beard was ginger but all the other hairs on your body weren't.

Well of course, few people have naturally green toe hair...

Erm so, quotagirl! What was the inspiration behind your work?
