J. Maarten Troost: The Sex Lives of Cannibals

At first glance, I thought this would be just another light breezy "how I got away from civilization" adventure story with a cute and clever title. In some ways I was right, but I'm happy to say being wrong has its perks too. Mixed in with the zany anecdotes about Troost's experiences as he and his wife spent a couple of years on the atoll of Tarawa in the South Pacific nation of Kribiti, I found sobering facts that would make an environmentalist quickly loose their lunch. I didn't realize that drought could be a problem in the midst of all that water, and I learned more than I thought I wanted to know about the effects of poor sanitation..ok NO sanitation, on groundwater and the so-called edible fuana and flora on said atoll..

Highly reccomended

What caught my attention to your thread wasn't the title, but rather, that you posted it. Coming from CDA or anyone else, I'd about expect it.:p You never cease to surprise abec. I'll keep an eye for this one.

In my original post-the one I lost at the library yesterday- I opened up the thread with, "Really, it isn't THAT kind of book! Honest!" My ILL librarians thought the title was pretty funny too and couldn't resist the tempation to tease me about it. Even my kids had to get in on the act:rolleyes: But really, it just isn't that kind of book at all..Really. There aren't even any more cannibals..:p

Seriously, there's only a couple of references to sex in the book, nothing on the level of Playboy or even a modern Harlequin Romance novel. If a reader wants that sort of thing, don't look for it in this book.
