Very good post-post apocalyptic road trip novel. Set around a thousand years in the future, a group of people set off from their small community in the Mississippi River Valley, to find a place in the northeast called Haven, where they believe a vast repository of books remains from the days of "The Roadmakers", the people who built the roads and buildings that they live among the ruins of.

Just picked this book up recently at a used book store after reading your post. Hope to fit it into my reading schedule soon, thanks for the quick review lenny.

Hey, Lenny.

I finally got around to reading this book and thought it was very good. Have you read any of the author's other books?

In the post apocalyptic genre you should try "the Pesthouse" by Jim Grace, very similar, good to.

"In his latest novel, The Pesthouse, Crace has imagined a dystopian America, perhaps 500, perhaps 1,000 years hence. (In Cracean time a millennium here or there is not significant.) America, for reasons that appear to include major seismic shifts leading to the plague, has collapsed into a chaotic dark age, in which robber bands, bizarre millenarian religious sects, nomads, hunters and foragers of all sorts are found. The remains of the industrial society - its rotting industrial plants, its collapsed cities - litter the landscape, archaeology rather than evidence of recent catastrophe."

No, I haven't. After I read this one, I checked out the descriptions of some of his other books though. None of the others were in the post apocalyptic genre, they all seemed more traditional sci fi.

The Pesthouse does sound good.
