Of the three Vonnegut books I've read, this one has been the most outwardly political IMHO. I love how the grand island of San Lorenzo is depicted. I'm reminded a lot of the banana republic allies the U.S. has collected throughout the years. "Papa" reminds me of Trujillo, Noriega, Batista, and Somoza. Let's not forget our obnoxious Hoosier traveling couple who are amazed that anyone could not like Americans and what we do for the world. Yes, they are bourgeoisie boobs, but darn it, they are our boobs. I'm roughly half-way through and hope to finish it up by thursday evening. Though knowing my luck, I'll be busy with something unexpected.
