Interesting Guardian article regarding Leonardo Da Vinci. A wooden clock work car was built from his design. I guess we can now add car to the list of ( ahead of their time inventions ) along with helicopter and handglider! Not only was he a great inventor but an amazing artist! Imainge having a conversation with this guy? :)

Leo: something quite fast and extremely foreign

That picture makes Da Vinci look like the forefather of IKEA and flat pack heaven :mad:

Did you know that him and Michelangelo were terrible rivals? Too GREAT minds and genius existing at the same time. How could they not be? :)

Apparently, there was a conversation between them on a bridge in Vienna.

Leonardo: Bascially tells Michelangelo that his works are rubbish!
<ichelangelo: Says back... At least I finish mine.

Leonardo stormed off. Well. he would :D Amazing man though. SUCH a genius. What a mind. Not only could he think about all this stuff but he could also paint the most beautiful of things.

did he invent the greatest technological breakthrough in all history, the wheel barrow?

I heard it was invented by a wizard.
 
I saw a tv special on Leonardo Da Vinci awhile ago, he's an artist, inventor, scientist and a genius. He use to dig people out of graves and disect their bodies and cut open their organs (which was illegal) and he would do it so he could see how they worked. When he would paint his pictures, he used to paint the bone structures and muscles first and then the skin and exterior. There was also suggestions that he was gay too.
 
Yeah, both of those were true.

You have to remember that at this time, there was no other way to advance medical understanding of the human body. This is why he did it :) He was very ahead of his time in all his thinking.
