Lifestyle and Mental Focus

How much does an active lifestyle- healthy diet/exercise- contribute to superb mental focus/concentration?
 
Interesting question. I find that the more active I am, the more energy I have, and thus - an increased ability to focus and get things done. I also sleep better when I am active (part of the reason I started working out every day). The better I sleep, the better I am able to focus. However, I've always been a pretty focused person - active or not. It seems the biggest parts of being focused or not are personality and interest. Do you have the personality to be focused and/or is the subject at hand interesting to you?
 
Interesting-I'd wager that Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Kafka, Woolf, Marx, and numerous others were physical wrecks. Whatdo I mean by that? They probably never ran a mile or if they tried, would've collapsed early on. That is also without considering that a good number of talented writers suffered from mental illnesses that are now, best ameliorated through medicine and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
