Looking for a book!

Help! I'm looking for the title (and or author) of the following (what I can remember of it) story.

The story is fiction and took place in 1980-2000. It involved a man who was head of some corporation I think based in Denver. The company produced some biological agent that they thought was not good and they thought that the president had somehow gotten infected with it. They tried to kill him in varoius ways but he had formally been a special forces kind of guy so he managed to evade the killers and kill several of them. Most of the book took place in a high rise building. At some point the good guy got out but then went back to take care of business. At the end of the book it was determined that all this was for naught and the company wanted to settle with him but he was off in the mountains somewhere with his girlfriend (I think she was someone who befriended him during this ordeal) on horseback. I would like to read this book again. Thank you for any help you can give.

David Lee

Your description sounds a bit like Vertical Run by Joseph R. Garber.

synopsis
It's just another day at the office for Dave, until his boss tries to shoot him. Then his wife, coworkers, and kids turn on him, and a gang of FBI sharpshooters trap him in a New York skyscraper. What Dave can't figure out is why it all went bad. Good thing he's a Vietnam vet with Green Beret-type training who handily remembers his hand-to-hand combat, kung-fu, marksmanship, and booby-trap-setting skills. He uses them all to keep his would-be killers at bay while he tries to figure out why he's suddenly become an endangered species.
