Looking for an Australian Book

While I was in Australia about 8 years I read a fantastic teen series by an Australian author about a bunch of kids who go camping in the wilderness and arrive back to find a war has begun. I think there were 4 or 5 books and I would love to read them for nostalgic purposes.

If it helps I remember that the first book had a strange title.

Any ideas?

If you're interested, he has starting writing a follow-up series about the people after the war, starting with The Ellie Chronicles.

I think the first two or three have come out. I read the first in the series a few years back, but haven't looked at the others. I plan to read the first series before working on the second, as I read the first such a long time ago!
