So, we received the summer reading list for my AP English Literature class next year, and was looking for some advice on which ones to (or not to) choose.

We have to choose 2 of the following:

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass—Frederick Douglass
A Farewell to Arms—Ernest Hemingway
All the Pretty Horses—Cormac McCarthy
The Red Badge of Courage—Stephen Crane
Black Boy---Richard Wright
The Crucible---Arthur Miller
Ethan Frome---Edith Wharton

Anything you know about any of these books would help. Thanks!

My picks in that order.

Ethan Frome: Edith Wharton
The Red Badge of Courage: Stephen Crane

The Crucible AND the Death of a Salesman (If you haven't read it).
In that order, since I think the Death of a Salesman is better. :)
And both are pretty short.

Oh, didn't realize you had to read two from the list.

2nd one would be either McCarthy or Hemingway.

Last choice for sure would be The Red Badge of Courage for me. Didn't like that much.

Sorry to keep adding stuff on.. but, the percentage is off.... Total percentage is 150%. haha.

haha, the total is 150% because I allowed for people to pick multiple options. The first person picked Ethan Frome and Red Badge, then you picked the Crucible, so each was picked in 50% of the votes.

Go for The Crucible. The only other one that I've read is The Red Badge of Courage, but I have mixed feelings about that book.

Given that a few of them are quite short, you may be best served to read as many as interest you.

I selectedFrederick Douglass and All the Pretty Horses, although I considered picking the Miller title. Of course, nothing's stopping you from reading all three--or all those titles on the list ;).

I'd go with the crucible i do enjoy that book. Only two books for the summer i get through loads during the summer maybe 4 or 5, i hope you will read more than the two on the list ;)

I'd go with A Farewell to Arms, as long as you're willing to really animate the characters yourself because Hemingway sure doesn't do it for you. ^_^ It's still a great read.

I'll also save you the potential death by boredom and say that The Red Badge of Courage is aweful.

Those are the only two I've read... hehe ^_^
