I am embarassed to admit that I have forgotten both the name and the author of a book I read late last year ( getting older has its drawbacks... ).
I want to read it again, and recommend it to many people.
The book is about a mother and son, who are the victims of a bomb blast in a parking garage in, I think, Dublin. The son is badly hurt and loses his hearing. The story revolves around the ensuing relationship between mother and son, the son's eventual marriage, and the relationship between the mother and one of her close friends. The son is a woodworker who builds decks in London. The book, while very depressing, is extraordinary in the depths of the relationships it portrays. I couldn't put it down.
If this story rings a bell with any of you, pls let me know.
Thanks.
