Just a word to express my disappointment in A partisans daughter by Louis de Bernières. So far,i liked most of his books, all very different in style, and was looking forward to this.It sound like a bad Zadi Smith(whom i don't care much for),and one wonder what was the purpose of it.The only remote interest i found was the Serbian part of it,having been i contact with many exiled in Paris during what was called the Kosovo war.But even this was not very inspired.
I still think Bernières is a brillant writer, and the south American trilogies and Birds without wings were great achivements. The more because of there radical difference in tone and subjets.Capitains Corellie was a light but happy read even if the love story is sometime a bit much.
I hope Red dog is better and that in the furture he goes back to his more "foreign" writing were he seams to be more a ease.
