I've been living in Miami, Florida for 40 years now and I have witnessed change happen all-the-time. Now a building called Miapolis (the soon to be tallest building in the world) will change the face of my home, Miami. Click here.

What's going to happen when a hurricane knocks it down?

I raised that same question my friend. I would assume (rightly so) that it must be hurricane proof. I survived hurricane Andrew, and let me tell you, the aftermath is something to behold. Cars (plural) and boats on roofs. All power lines on the street and sparking, no electricity at home for weeks on end. Giant trees uprooted. Horrific...just plain horrific. Before Andrew I had no respect for canes. But now, I am scared shit less when the weather guy/gal hints at a possibility of one coming our way. Those monster storms are hell on earth. If you don't live on (or near) hurricane alley (like we do down here) count yourself very lucky.

Also. when I was a kid, Miami was a quiet (almost unknown) little city. Nothing like you see today. In my view the broadcast of Miami Vice began the change for my humble little city for the spotlight (because of the success of that show) grew. I miss the old Miami (1970s)...I think that it totally sucks now. The spot light (still upon us) has corrupted the wholesome of my home city. Development after development, I don't like it one bit. It's not my Miami any longer and it will be never be. It sucks.

Having just viewed the promotional video for Miapolis, I can only sit here stunned. I sounds like they have thought to promise everything under the sun and I can't even begin to imagine the price to actually enjoy any of it. If it works -- and I wish them every success for such a breathtaking undertaking -- it will be the coming of an amazing, futuristic sci-fi novel right here on Earth.

. . . . And will no doubt change the face and life of the surrounding city quite a bit more, also. Just think of the Pentagon in DC for a so-called 'self-contained' unit. :sad:

Hmmm, looks like it's supposed to be Green and Sustainable.

PLATINUM GREEN SUSTAINABLE
Buildings have a surprisingly profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health and productivity. MIAPOLIS intends to be designed as a high performance green building through a LEED certified project.

MIAPOLIS will be on the cutting edge of sustainable design. This project will be the largest LEED-
certified structure at any rating level in the United States. As green buildings are recognized
increasingly by LEED and ENERGY STAR, the marketplace is expected to follow with a system of preferential pricing. Tremendous value is created for MIAPOLIS because it is being built to the hig-
hest standards:;

LEED certification;
environmental management;
energy conservation and renewable
60% wind energy;
modular green roof; greenhouse gas management
water desalinization; storm water management
wastewater; solid waste management
transportation alternative fuel, electric trolleys
purchase carbon emissions offsets;
ecosystem management; Carbon sequestration

Are you OK with that AquaBlue?
