Most impressive? Ever? Hmm, I'll have to qualify that in two stages: "Books I most often return to, to read again" and "Dropped my jaw, spun my head, made me think, but haven't been back very often (or since)."

Most often returned to:

Dune (yearly, and get something new out of it every time)

Dropped my jaw:

Animal Farm
Farenheit 451
Flu, by Gina Kolada

Cathy
Isn't it interesting that penguins don't get colds...

For me:

Weaveworld - because the of the imagery
Blindness - for the depths of the human soul Saramago manages to show you

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne - Just incredible that someone who never saw the bottom of the ocean could describe it so well.

The Once and Future King by T.H. White - Those books always inspire me and I'm always depressed when they're over.
