Movies about Indian dieties

Hi.

I just came back from India where I found out how terribly poor is my knowledge in Indian mythology. I started to update myself through the internet but I got confused and very desperate because Gods names are long and foreign for my western ears and after a two or three minutes I loose any connection of who-was-a-father-of-whom-and-reincarnation-of-whom.

May be somebody can advise for a movie based on Indian (Hindu) mythology, which preferrably does not change the original Hindu plot of a story?

I would be happy to any advice :) !

I don't think I've ever heard of a film about Indian deities. In fact I don't think there are any definitive Hindi movies about them either.
I always find that the best way of remembering things is to discuss them. I have an interest in mythology, and a good (or so i like to think) knowledge of Indian deities, so if you're interested then start up a thread maybe?

waveguide, you mention in your Indian Gods thread the movie "The Mahabharata". I saw this film but did not mention it because I was not sure how close it is to the Mahabharata. I think it is more about the conflicts of humans than tales about the gods. I do remember Ganesha being one of the characters.

There was also a television series "Ramayan", based on the Ramayana.

Wow, that sounds really great! but in that link, it is said that the language is Hindi. Did you see it in english? Was it any good? The comments in IMDB were quite good, so the only obstacle would be to get it from somewhere and that it will be in one of the languages that I happen to understand...
