myspace.com and the Dalai Lama

Sitaram

kickbox
I was in yahoo books and lit chat room yesterday (where I often plug TBF), and I met an interesting student who had a page at myspace.com . I joined myspace, out of curiosity. Upon joining myspace, one is automatically assigned one friend, who is a staff member. I clicked on their profile, and saw their other "friends", when, lo and behold, I noticed that Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai Lama was among them. I thought it must be a joke. But upon visiting the profile, I am convinced that it is genuine.

And, I went through hell to find the following link, using google.com

www.myspace.com/jetsunjamphelngawanglo

myspace does not give you an easy way to learn someones url, unless they want to tell you what it is or post it somewhere.

I think that jetsunjamphelngawanglo is Tibetan for "I am just a man", but I am not sure. Anyway, I found this fascinating. I have no intention of bringing up religion or politics with this post. But if I found that Annie Proulx had her own blog there, I would tell you too, or some other public personality for that matter.

Sitaram - loved the link. I've been fascinated with this 'man' for a while now. And the philosophy behind budhism is just so very beautiful. So thanks for the link.:)

I just could not believe it was genuine, at first. I was certain it was some hoax. But, hey, it makes sense for someone like that to join something like myspace, and communicate or network with so many young people.

I am sure that the Dalai Lama does not personally sit at a computer and post blogs. He probably has a staff to handle that.

I was so excited to find http://www.annieproulx.com with a message board, and the possibility that Annie Proulx might actually see a post. But then they took down the message board. They claim it is being redesigned, but who knows.

Anyway it is fun to think that you might have some way to communicate with such famous personalities.

Intresting link, so if you sent him a message, one of his subordinates might give it to the man himself. Not certain what to ask him, but I might think of something later on. Great content on there as well.:)

You never know Sitaram - he may post himself. His curiosity with science and technology is well known and I think he'd enjoy using a tool that is capable of communicating with so many people, from so many places with just the click of a few buttons. Look how many we get to chat with daily just on this forum. It just goes to show how tight a unit this earth is - now if only we could all just get along (sigh).

(My favourite pastime is meeting new people and hearing thier experiences. And I love eavesdropping and watching people go about thier business.)

Sitaram, you rascal, you certainly do know how to get my attention! Now I'm going to have to join myspace.com too. I wonder if they already have a Still Learning.

Does the Universe have a sense of humor, or what? :D

Oops. I just got back from clicking your link, Sitaram. April fool, I'm afraid.

His Holiness's staff would never have made this blooper:

Actually, they might indeed phoneticize it that way, being unaware of the scandelous innuendo behind the word hung.

Also, it might be a Tibetan pronunciation of the original Pali text.

As a matter of fact, I just now googled on : "Om Mani Peme Hung"

and I get 18,000 plus links returned, many of which mention Tibet and the Dalai Lama.

And, check this out:

http://www.lioncity.net/buddhism/index.php?act=Print&client=printer&f=37&t=15445

According to this website

http://dharma-haven.org/tibetan/meaning-of-om-mani-padme-hung.htm

There is the sanskrit pronunciation : Om Mani Padma Hum

The Tibetan pronunciation : Om Mani Peme Hung

And there is this website:

http://www.freedomhealthrecovery.com/marinduque/enlightened.html

The chant pronounce as Om Ma ni PAD ME hum, the "pad me" and the " pad me" pronunciation of tibetan is different.

So, let's try to keep our minds out of the gutter. (ha ha)

It is kind of you to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I believe it is:

OM MANI PADME HUM

(And so does Gurumayi Chidvilasananda)

We was took!

StillILearn,

Read very carefully my previous post, which explains the difference between Pali (Sanskrit) and Tibetan pronunciation, and also consider that 18,000 + links cant be wrong.

And, by the way, I know enough negative information about Gurumayi Chidvilasananda to make her a poor source or authority to cite, not that it is my place to discuss such matters publically.

Clicked on a few of his "friends" and discovered that he or his subordinates, do post from time to time on other people's pages.

Ooo. I'm curious! Next time I'm here, I'll tell you of my experience with Gurumayi. I've gotta get ready to go to Reno for Chinese food right now, but I'll be back!

(And, as you know, I it is not my wont to do things privately.) :D

I wish to publicly apologize for my previous posts. As usual, I (re)acted in haste. Man oh man, do I ever like to put my foot in it.

I wonder if Ken Wilber or Lama Surya Das has a myspace account. So far, you can only find them on shambhala.

I don't know. There were some pretty convincing-looking profiles of people claiming to be Amy Lee from Evanescence, but Amy Lee herself informed me (and many others on a forum she chats on) that she does not have My Space and will never get it.

Here is an informative article about myspace on Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySpace

This article mentions that some celebrities have pages at myspace.

I was able to access the site for many hours this morning. But I have not been able to log in for the past several hours. This Wikipedia article mentions some problems with myspace.

I made friends yesterday with an author of YA Books. I posted a link to her page in the Childrens Book section here.

I am recommending TBF to people I meet at myspace. I am curious to see if anyony joins as a result of my networking there.
