I wanna talk about shitty b-movies. I can't put my finger on it, but I feel there's something almost aesthetic about the ridiculous screenplays, poor actors and the overall degree of low-quality production. it's simply art that can make you laugh, and therein lies the reason why I love mystery science theater 3000. as the story goes: two robots and a temp worker stranded on a satellite are forced to watch some of the world's worst films by evil scientists who've sent them there to try to monitor their brains. why? because, well ... they're evil. so maybe you're wondering what the whole point of this is. well, don't ask that question. it's just a neat concept. the films are savaged all the way through, and with plenty of pop-culture references. where they get their food and oxygen is still a mystery, but I wouldn't wonder too much. there's no point, it's just a show.

There is something magical about a really bad movie. I mean, even with low production values, it was important enough for someone completely in earnest to put a lot of work into it. Probably several someones.

mst ran for eleven seasons including the first year it was publicly broadcasted in minneapolis. it's now in syndication on the sci-fi channel, I think. you can purchase individual episodes, or all 177 episodes, on dvd-r online at this website: http://home.earthlink.net/~mst3k_trading/id16.html. also, rhino has released five box set volumes each containing four one-and-a-half hour episodes. the fifth volume is the best because it has timechasers and merlin's shop of mystical wonders, which are god-awful. they did a really good job. it seems that around the seventh season they stopped halfway through, then one year they came back and all of a sudden the episodes were funnier than they had ever been before.
