Need Some Recommendation for Books, Please

Hello,

I'm looking for a well-written, romance novel. I basically want it to be "in our times", so no medieval or outerspace things. Overall, I'd just like it set in "the real world" in modern times. If anyone has any suggestions, please reply!

Thank you for your time.

I guess this is a qualified suggestion, as I doubt my suggestions are listed under the genre:

'The Pleasure of My Company' by Steve Martin. Also 'Shopgirl' by same.

'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.'

The first two mentioned are short romantic comedies of sorts; the latter is a much ballyhooed epic, but is at heart a love story (with love stories nested within it).

Oh, and this is really going out on a limb, and stretches your 'modern times' caveat even more than 'Kavalier & Clay' does, but what the heck:

'The Man Who Fell in Love With the Moon,' by Tom Spanbauer. In some respects, it's a romance, in others it's a Western. And a tale of prostitution, rape, genocide, religious bigotry and homosexual mysticism...
