I'm looking for a book I read years ago. The sparse outline that I remember goes like this:
Two brothers live together (at a relative's house?) The house burns down and one of the brothers dies. The other brother dies later (suicide?) and the two are reunited in the afterlife. They discover that the afterlife is not so blissful as they had imagined, and somehow they both die again, going to a second afterlife. This process repeats a few times, with each new heaven as disappointing as the last. The book ends with them jumping off a cliff together.
Repeated googling has gotten me nowhere. Any ideas?
