Neil Gaiman: A Study in Emerald

This is for Neil Gaiman fans, or those who have a penchant for Sherlock Holmes with a very fresh, Lovecraftian twist.

Gaiman's website has an exclusive short story posted called A Study in Emerald, which is his contribution to a collection of short stories (called Shadows over Baker Street) set in Sherlock Holmes's London, but steep in H.P. Lovecraft lore.

The link is here, for those who are interested, and when you've read it, please post your thoughts here, esp if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan (as I am). I've read A Study in Scarlet, and this is a very strange take on the tale.

No prob, Wabbit! :) I've got another short story to share, this time it's from Neal Stephenson.

Lemme find the link...

Don't forget to post your thoughts!

Ok, thanks again! :)

I will let you know what I think of both the Gaiman one and the Stephenson one when I have read them! I like both those authors!

Just finished reading the short story. Very good! :-D I really liked the twist where
the royal family are not human. I guess you will not know this since you are not british :) so I want to tell you that there is a well known lunatic here called David Ike. He is or was the leader of the green party here. He says all kinds of strange things including that the royal family are not human but in fact a race of blood drinking alien lizard creatures! So Gaiman was using this in his story! That made me smile :)

Anyway, very good story and good twist oh the Homes stories. Thanks again for the link :)

Glad you liked it. :)

The best part for me is the fact that Holmes is an alien 'supporter', and not on the 'good guys'/Restorationist side, as you'd probably expect. The Holmes as the bad guy really surprised me there. Another part that surprised me was the narrator wasn't Watson! :)

I'm gonna check out I Cthulhu also...

Yes, and in fact
Watson
was working for those other guys! He managed a good twist on the Homes story! :)
