New Job

It is always tough when you start a new job isnt it?
You're young and when its your first job, you don't want to screw anything up!
You get that nearvous paniky feeling that cries out from the inside of you, but a little bit of you feels excited as well as scared...
I feel like that, because I start a job, a new job, my first job!

On your first day everyone is expecting you to mess up anyway, and we've all had first days. Just ask for help when you need it, and if you do mess up it's probably down to them not training you probably. Just be honest. If you mess up, tell someone immediately and don't try to cover it up. I've never got in trouble for making an honest mistake, and people are never as annoyed as you'll think they'll be if you fess up before you get rumbled.

So relax, ask lots of annoying questions and start practising important stock phrases.

'Me no speaky de Inglish.'
'I'm on my break.'
'Sorry mate. More than my job's worth.'
'It was like that when I got here.'
'A big boy did it and ran away.'

Good luck and congratulations. :D

You'll come up with phrases of your own to suit the situation, but those are a good basic package.

Remember, if someone tells you to come with them with any questions, they mean it. I supervise people myself. I would rather spend a whole day being asked 'stupid' question than have someone do something wrong that could have been avoided. As far as I'm concerned, if someone is asking me questions it's because I forgot to tell them, or I explained it poorly in the first place. Asking questions shows that you're one of the bright ones rather than one of the dumb ones.

Remember to smile Rainbowgurl :) People are a lot nicer to you if you come across as a nice person. They'll put up with silly questions for a whole lot longer. But don't overdo it and look like a bit of a deranged loon :/

Oh and don't ask to leave early, or sit on your arse reading a book/playing solitaire/eating crisps all day, you don't want to be accused of getting your feet under the old table too quickly :)

What kind of job are you starting?

Best of luck RainbowGurl. If you show as much passion for your job as you do in the rest of your life, you'll be running the show in no time. :)

And be wary if anyone asks you to go down to the hardware department for a long stand or tartan paint.

I used to love using those... :D

Though if you do it right you can end up with quite a cushy job. Everyone's too scared to ask you to do anything and also too scared to fire you.

But I'd probably leave it a few weeks before you start introducing people to your invisible guardian badger.

LOL! :D Or a left-handed screwdriver, or a tin of elbow grease!

Congratulations and Good Luck, RainbowGurl! :)

Where the heck are you working?

Good luck and congratulations on the job! As Freya said, smile. I work with a girl who looks like she's irritated all of the time. She's constantly moaning, "Oh God!", or "This sucks!" It makes everyone around her feel tense. Oh, and save long-winded, non-work-related conversations for break times. The management usually tends to frown upon people yammering away for fifteen minutes at a time when they should be working.

Classroom Assistant. It's a class with 7 year olds.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be :p
The 7 year olds are tiny and cute! Much smaller than the 8 year olds I did course experience with.
They kept asking if they could go to the toilet lol.
Some held my hand and I told them what to do and they listened! Lol.
Pretty fun.
I sat next to the smallest girl in the class, awww and there is another girl who keeps holding my hand, she has the same name as me! Lol.
And the teacher I'm with was my year 5 science teacher. Lol, so we are catching up on old times.

Glad it went well! :) Just be careful about head lice; they are always rife in Year 3!
